English Setters

A couple of general points. The standard asks for a long lean head, and we still have too many with the overdone bulbous skulls, or too short in muzzle especially in the males. Good fronts and shoulders, with the required brisket remain elusive on many.

Veteran D/B (5, 1ab)

1st Vlasblom Multi Ch Sunflame Coloured Peaces of A Dream. At 11 years this bitch is in stunning condition. Feminine expression, dark eye, excellent body and firm topline. Very good bend of stifle and moves with soundness, drive and a slashing tail that could show many of the youngsters how it is done.

2nd Johnson’s Larrenie Ruby Tuesday. A bitch I have done well before and still love her typical head, and darkest of eyes. Excellent shoulder, bone and feet. Deep well sprung body, love her slashing tail as she drives round the ring.

3rd Thompson’s Swannery Valention’s Legacy

MPD (2, 1ab)

1st Watkins & Philips’ Bumblecorn Winter Ice at Glenmaurangi. Light tri of 8 moths, lean head with dark eye, excellent length of leg, body correct for age, has much growing and developing to do. Comes into himself on the move where he has drive and good side gate. His overall balance carried him to BP.

PD (3, 1ab) two very different puppies, both showing promise.

1st Sharples Kanietter Silverstone. Big framed orange dog that will take time to fill. Soft expression, with dark eye, stands on excellent length of leg, well off for bone. Straight front, Firm topline, body starting to develop. Moves soundly fore and after.

2nd Goutourbe’s Redhara Billy Whizz. Smaller, more compact type with plenty to like. Lean masculine head. Clean in outline, well angulated at both ends, more developed at this stage in body than 1, in good coat. Unfortunately, today, he spent more time enjoying himself, despite his handlers best efforts, than worrying about where he was putting his feet

JD (2)

1st Littlechild’s Ravensett Fire ‘n’ Ice. 15 month orange dog, not a big one but with a beautiful head, softest expression, dark eye. Good length of neck into clean shoulders, deep body, short coupled. Moved soundly and with style.

2nd Gwilliam & Bozier’s Albadora Second Thought’s of Vicotriaview. Very rangy dog orange dog at present who needs to tighten up all through.

YD (3,1ab)

1st Cole’s Sorbus Storm Ryder JW. Upstanding dog, with masculine head, clean in outline, straight front, good length of leg to height.  Well laid shoulder, firm short back, deep body, in good coat and condition.

2nd Stead’s Upperwood Michaelmas Man. Orange dog with pleasing head, good bone, legs and feet, still rather rangy and at that inbetween teenager stage, but when he matures into his frame should make into a decent dog.

PGD (10, 2 ab)

1st Thompson’s Mariglen Fetlar at Caspellwynd JW Sh Cm. Blue dog that please for his height and overall shape. Clean in outline, good length of neck into well laid shoulders, and return of upperarm, deep body, firm topline, well bent stifles, drove off his hocks as he moved soundly with slashing tail. Presented in excellent coat.

2nd Wales Wansleydale King’s Magic JW, another dog that pleased for his overall height to length proportions. Pleasing head proportions, straight front, correct round bone, deep well ribbed body, short coupled, excellent tailset, just preferred the better return of upperarm of 1.

3rd Skyes Daraquist Barry A Reef

LD (5, 1ab)

1st Bryant & Hollis’ Phenset Blue Max. a fully mature blue, who isn’t flashy but presents a very clean outline, and balanced throughout. Has the most beautiful long, lean but masculine head with dark eye giving a soft expression. Excellent bone legs and feet. Good forechest, deep body, well ribbed, strong through the backend. On the move he comes alive, with a very sound, ground covering action, and slashing tail that took him to the resCC.

2nd Davies, Littlechild & Bridgewater’s Brucelm Tangerine Dream, Glorious headed orange presented in excellent order, long reachy neck into well laid shoulders. Good for body and firm topline. Moved well but just not quite as accurate as 1.

3rd Whiitington Juldeane Excalibur Sh Cm

OD (3)

1st Kelly’s Sh Ch Richecca Shades of Grey JW, stunning dark tri, for me epitomises what an English Setter should be - elegance and substance combined – nothing overdone about this boy. Beautiful head with soft expression, excellent front with plenty of brisket, super body, short coupled, perfect rear end. Drives round the ring with an efficient purposeful action, with head held high and slashing tail. Presented in immaculate condition. Pleased to award him the CC&BOB.

2nd Maurik’s Vanquish Move Forward Jun Ch. Eye-catching  dark blue dog. Beautiful head and expression, loved his front, bone and feet. Shoulders well laid back, good for body, his correct rear angulation allows his sound driving movement, Immaculately presented. He was very close for top honours but today I felt just needs a little more maturity.

MPB (3, 1ab)

1st Steven’s Bumblecorn Winter Snow. Tall, light orange, well laid shoulder into her body that is maturing well. Moved well, feet need to tighten.

2nd Croft’s Merleycopse Dolly Daydream. Blue bitch with pretty head and darkest of eyes. Well developed body for age. Handler rather let her down on the move as she needs to be taken at a faster pace and make more use of the ring.

PB (1)

1st Kerr, RavensettGolden Charm, Pretty headed orange, good body, and firm topline, needs to tighten all through. BPB.

JB (5, 2ab)

1st Taylor’s Wansleydale Bellini. Lovely headed orange, stands on good bone legs and feet, deep well sprung body for age, very good rear angluation. In good coat and hard condition allowed her to move very soundly with slashing tail.

2nd Loakes Rachdale Painted Lady at Goldbirch. More compact than 1, and at that inbetween stage. Feminine head and dark eye, balanced confirmation throughout, and moved soundly. Just needs time to develop.

3rd Davidson, wells & Gray Benchmark Forget Me Not

YB (6, 1ab)

1st Taylor’s W. Bellini

2nd Thacker’s Swannery Blue rose. Dark blue with feminine lean head, and dark eye. Well laid shoulders and upperarm, very good bend of stifle. Just not the substance of 1.

3rd Van Genechten & Akkerman’s Bournefield Nice To Meet You

PGB (10, 2 ab)

1st Sykes Daraquist Abbi Riginal, beautiful orange bitch in full coat,  well worked head and melting expression, text book shoulders, front and brisket, excellent bone, legs and feet. Mature body, strong well angulated rear, very good finish over the croup to tailset. Moved soundly, and would have been my third choice for top honours, but lacked a little sparkle on the move today.

2nd Henry’s Pilsdon Flashlight. Big strong orange bitch with much to like about her. Clean in outline, Well made throughout, moves soundly with plenty of drive, in excellent coat.

3rd William’s Lakecastle Kasumi of Wistaston

LB (6 2ab)

1st Stik’s Mariglen Perfect Day at Grakar. Tall, upstanding blue, impressed for overall shape and balance, Lovely feminine head, darkest of eye, reachy neck into well laid shoulders, good forechest, straight front, very good bend of stifle and well let down hocks, drove soundly round the ring with slashing tail.

2nd Mugford’s Quensha Summer Night’s at Lynwood JW. High quality, substantial orange, stands on well boned legs and neat feet, well laid shoulders, deep mature body, short coupled and firm topline, just preferred the extra elegance and balance of 1

3rd Mariglen Mercedes JW

Open (6,2 ab) excellent class.

1st Mauriks’ Bel Dutch Ch Vanquish Love of Rose Jun Ch. Loved this exquisite dark blue, beautifully balanced all through combining substance, femininity and elegance. Excellent head and darkest of eyes giving a soft, meting expression, long neck into text book forehand, well rounded bone and neatest of feet, mature deep body, short coupled, well angulated rear quarters, and finish over the croup to well set tail. Moved soundly, with drive covering the ground. Delighted to award her, her first CC, and I hope we see her on these shores again.

2nd Spencer’s Sh Ch Sorbus Just Another Day. different type to 1 but fits the standard so well., and impressed greatly. Well proportioned feminine head, excellent lay of shoulders, superb bone and feet, best of fronts and body, short coupled, strong through the backend with well bent stifles. Moved well but not quite the performance of 1 on the day. Very pleased to give her the resCC

GCB

1st Lawson’s Sh Ch Mariglen Ice Crystal JW Sh CM, 4th in the excellent open class, blue belton I have done well before and still admire her for type, and her striking outline. Excellent shoulders, deep body, well angulated behind and excellent tailset. Today she lacked enthusiasm and wasn’t in her best coat.

2nd Davidson, Wells & Gray Mariglen Michaela with Benchmark, tri of good type, with attractive head. Mature body, moved soundly.

3rd Thacker Swannery Blue Rose.
